Over 20 members of the HEAL team actively participated in the Healthy Kids Community Challenge Engagement Forum hosted by London’s Child & Youth Network on December 7th. HEAL Director Professor Jason Gilliland served as emcee for the morning, which involved several university researchers who presented evidence on children’s physical activity, healthy eating, and sleep. Dr Gilliland gave 3 presentations related to HEAL research on 1) physical activity levels among children in the STEAM project, 2) HEAL’s collaboration with active & safe routes to school, and 3) food environments and junk food consumption. HEAL Project Manager Dr Andrew Clark gave a presentation on findings from the Act-i-Pass project, and HEAL Faculty Associate Dr Colleen O’Connor spoke about our evaluation of the Westminster neighbourhood demonstration project. With the support of nearly 20 members of the HEAL team, Dr Clark also presented the Community Needs Assessment and led a community mapping exercise involving over 100 forum attendees.
