Dr Jason Gilliland was a keynote speaker at a public forum May 21 on “Creating Healthy Active Communities – The Power of Partnerships”. The forum, co-sponsored by the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada and The Healthy Communities Partnership of Middlesex-London, brought together local stakeholders and key policymakers to discuss strategies on how supportive environments and policy can promote active communities for all ages. Dr. Gilliland gave two presentations, one on creating healthy active communities for children and youth based on the STEAM project, and another on evidence-based policy recommendations for creating healthy communities in rural contexts. Among those speaking at the event were the Honourable Deb Matthews, Minister of Health for Ontario, and Dr. Chris Mackie, the Medical Officer of Health for Middlesex-London. Also participating were HEAL members Lucie Richard (MA student), Doug Rivet (PhD student) and Dr Andrew Clark (Postdoctoral Fellow). See News Story with audio HERE.
