HEAL Research funded by Canadian Cancer Society!

Monday, March 31, 2014

HEAL Director Dr Jason Gilliland (PI), along with co-investigators Dr Bill Avison, Dr Harry Prapavessis, Dr Trish Tucker & Dr Piotr Wilk (all from Western) were successful in the recent CIHR Population Health Intervention Grant Competition.  Their project, entitled “How does providing free access to community recreation facilities and programs change physical activity levels among the Grade 5 population in London, Ontario?”, was ranked #1 in the competition!  The Canadian Cancer Society is partnering with the Canadian Institutes of Health Research on this initiative and is contributing 100% of the total funding ($199,298 over 2 years, 2014-2016).  Thanks to the project management of HEAL postdoctoral fellow Dr Andrew Clark, and all our community partners from the Child & Youth Network, City of London, YMCA and the Boys & Girls Club, the project is already well underway!
