Tuesday, November 18, 2014

SmartAPPetite Project ‘Revealed’ on RogersTV. The SmartAPPetite project is featured on the current episode of the 'Western Revealed' television show on Rogers TV. The SmartAPPetite project uses a novel smartphone app to help people find, prepare and eat healthy and tasty foods that are grown and/or sold in Ontario. The episode features several collaborators talking about the project, including project director Dr JasonGilliland of Western’s Geography Department, registered dietitian Dr Colleen O’Connor of Brescia University College, advisor David Corke from the London Training Centre, chef Eric Neaves from The Only restaurant in London, and local farmer Paul Spence (who’s chicken is a staple on the menu at The Only). This interdisciplinary project aims to strengthen the local food economy and promote healthy eating through improving food literacy and strengthening connections between app users and the local food community.
