Drew Bowman

Research Associate / Field Manager

Drew is a research associate and field manager at the Human Environments Analysis Laboratory (HEALab). With undergraduate experience in Health Sciences (BHSc) and a graduate degree in Health Geography (MA), her research interests include public health and health policy, with a particular focus on food environments, healthy eating, and food and beverage advertising. Drew’s passion for creating healthier environments for young people translates into her role as staff co-facilitator for the lab’s Youth Advisory Council (HEALYAC). In this role, Drew assists with the planning, organization, and facilitation of HEALYAC meetings, and works with teens from across the city to inform the research that is carried out by the HEAL.

Drew’s MA research at the HEALab focused on examining local food environments surrounding secondary schools in London, Ontario to understand how exposure changes across a diversity of neighbourhoods. Her research specifically looked at outdoor food and beverage advertising exposure surrounding these teen-centred institutions. During her studies, she collaborated with local youth to understand their food advertising perceptions and then developed a teen-informed coding tool to measure the power of food-related advertisements.
