Janet Loebach

PhD Candidate, Research Associate

Janet Loebach is a PhD candidate in Urban/Health Geography at the University of Western Ontario, with an interdisciplinary research focus on the relationship between children and their neighborhood environments particularly the environmental influences on children’s play, physical activity and healthy development. Her interests also include the evaluation, programming and research-based design of environments for special populations, including children, older adults and those with special needs. Janet is also a strong advocate of participatory research and design with children, and has completed a number of participatory playspace design projects in both Canada and Peru. A registered professional engineer, Janet received a national scholarship from Engineers Canada to pursue her doctorate work. Active in a number of local and national organizations related to the built environment and health, Janet also currently serves as the Chair of the Children, Youth & Environments Network of the Environmental Design Research Association and the Vice President of the International Play Association (Canada).
