HEAL Award Winner Tackling Food Insecurity in Rural Ontario

Congratulations to HEAL Graduate Research Assistant Angela Piaskoski who received a Canada Graduate Scholarship from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.

Angela’s MSc research, under the supervision of Dr. Jason Gilliland in the Department of Geography, will examine the role that Geography plays in rural food security. Her research will investigate perceptions of food security among those living in rural, food insecure households and their response to environmental barriers in accessing safe, nutritious, and affordable food. The implications of availability, accessibility, and adequacy of food aid in a rural setting, where food banks have developed into an alternative food system, will also be considered.
