Dr Stephanie Coen a CIHR Postdoctoral Fellow!

Congratulations to Dr. Stephanie Coen, a postdoctoral associate with the HEALab working with supervisor Dr. Jason Gilliland, who was recently awarded a 2-year fellowship from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) for her project entitled “Environmental influences on gendered inequities in physical activity: Centring young people’s experiences.”

Coen notes that while gender differences in physical activity between boys and girls are well-documented, we need to understand more about the factors contributing to these disparities from the perspectives of young people themselves. Coen aims to engage youth in discussions about their environments, gender, and physical activity using creative art-based methods that both encourage youth to reflect on their experiences, and result in a co-created creative product that can be used to share the findings of the research with stakeholders.
