HEAL Award Winner Investigating Food Environments for Teens

Congratulations to HEAL Graduate Research Assistant Drew Bowman who received a Canada Graduate Scholarship from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.

Drew also received both the Edward G. Pleva Award for Excellence in Teaching and the Canadian Association of Geographers Award from the Department of Geography at The University of Western Ontario.

Drew’s MA research in Geography under the supervision of Dr. Jason Gilliland involves examining the local food environments in London, Ontario, and how this exposure influences the food purchasing and consumption of teenagers. Drew is examining all food outlets surrounding high schools in a diversity of London neighbourhoods to understand what foods teens have access to, and how this changes across different neighbourhood types.
