During his nterview with Julianne Hazlewood, this morning Director, Jason Gilliland shares findings on access to primary care in London, Ontario from the HEAL team’s recently published study in the journal PLOSone.
Accessibility to a primary care provider was studied, either a family doctor or nurse practitioner based on distribution and geographical proximity. The team focused on accessibility for vulnerable populations, specifically seniors, lone-parents, and low-income households. It was found is that accessibility to a primary care provider is significantly greater in areas where there are a higher proportion of low-income households, seniors and lone-parents. In addition, the study shows that accessibility for vulnerable populations is quite good in the city, while access along linguistic lines is less certain.
