YAC1819 Meeting 7

For meeting 7, a guest speaker from the Western Research Ethics Board, Katelyn Harris, went into great depth on research ethics and gave our members her perspective of what it is like when approving studies or sending them back for revision. This gave youth the opportunity to ask more questions like, “how research can be conducted in the most equitable way (by having both male and female participants)”, as well as, “if high-risk requirements for participants are allowed”, as long as they are informed (No, safety outweighs being informed).

Afterwards, the HEALYAC brainstormed ideas for projects we could take on later in the year. Ideas regarding the problem of vaping in schools entered into the discussion as a position statement topic.

Later, members formulated ideas for content in the promotional video.
