For our third meeting, Katelyn Harris, a member from Western’s Research Ethics Boards (REB), came in to discuss research ethics with the council. All research conducted by students, staff, and faculty at Western University is evaluated and approved by the university’s ethics board to ensure it meets a set of standards, best practices, laws, and regulations.
After their ethics presentation, the HEALYAC members began a workshop on ‘TCPS 2 Tutorial Course on Research Ethics’, supplied through the Government of Canada.
Next, the members were given a choice of which documentary they would like to watch to further explore research ethics. The council picked The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks (2010) to watch during their next meeting.
