Dr. Stephanie Coen at the University of Nottingham shares her research experience with HEAL, and role as a Post-Doctoral Associate. She completed her postdoctoral training under the mentorship of Dr. Jason Gilliland at HEAL in 2018. During her training with the HEAL, Coen’s research focused on gender and young people’s physical activity, as well as participatory and creative approaches to doing research with young people. In addition to building her capacity to conduct community-based research, HEAL’s connections to public health and the practice of community geography enabled her involvement with the Centre for Research on Health Equity and Social Inclusion (CRHESI) and London’s Child & Youth Network. These experiences uniquely positioned her for a role as an Assistant Professor in Human Geography, School of Geography at the University of Nottingham. In this role, she fulfils different duties including teaching, research and service. She also serves as the School’s “Health Hub” convener to foster synergies and collaboration among faculty members in relation to health through seed funding for new projects.
