In our meeting on December 3, we explored what a healthy city means to us, focusing on safety, walkability, and accessible public spaces. Members shared experiences from their own neighbourhoods and discussed how transit, clean streets, and good urban planning impact youth who often rely on walking and buses.
We talked about how accessible local areas help foster independence and support small businesses, while also highlighting the role of green spaces in improving mood, reducing stress, and supporting better attention.
The group emphasized the importance of social infrastructure like parks and libraries, and shared ideas for making parks more youth friendly through better lighting, washrooms, accessible paths, and creative features.
We also recorded the first part of our upcoming podcast episode on nutrition and finished the meeting by starting our discussion on our next topic, social media and phone addiction.
Notes prepared by YAC member Sophia.
