Lunch & Learn with Prof. Jamie Seabrook: Making Sense of Sample Size Calculations

On January 28th 2026, HEAL hosted Dr.  Jamie Seabrook, a full professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Western University and a faculty associate of the HEAL for a Lunch & Learn.

Dr. Seabrook delivered an accessible presentation titled “No More Guesswork: Making Sense of Sample Size Calculations“. This session was designed to support both seasoned quantitative researchers and those newer to statistical methods. It offered a practical overview of why sample size matters and how to approach it with confidence.

Accurate sample size estimation is essential for producing meaningful and trustworthy research findings. Yet for many researchers, determining the “right” number of participants can feel opaque, technical, or overwhelming. Dr. Seabrook’s talk demystified this process.
