HEALYAC 2025-2026: Meeting #12

This week’s HEALYAC meeting focused on conducting preliminary qualitative coding of transcripts from our online YAC-YAC session. Members were introduced to qualitative coding by staff co-facilitator Shawna and were tasked with identifying and highlighting key sections of the transcripts that addressed the question: how do youth experience their everyday environments, and how do these experiences positively or negatively impact their mental health and overall wellbeing in cities? As a group, we began mapping several overarching themes identified in the data.

The YAC is currently preparing a poster presentation based on these findings for the annual Children’s Health Research Day at King’s University College on May 27.

During the meeting, we also celebrated co-op student Laine Barnfield as she completes her placement with HEAL. Laine has been an integral member of the staff co-facilitation team and will be greatly missed. The meeting also included some lighthearted moments, with our Grade 12 members sharing updates from London’s iconic “Senior Assassin” game.
