Western University
Marcello is a project manager at the Human Environments Analysis Laboratory (HEALab) focusing on the Food Retail Environment Study for Health & Economic Resiliency (FRESHER). Marcello has been at Western since 2014, completing a BA in the Urban Development Program with honours and recently finishing up a graduate degree in Geography (MA) – focusing on how municipalities in Ontario respond to economic development and industrial decline. His research interests include local economic resiliency, the relationship between urban planning and economic development, and creating healthy communities through initiatives such as the adaptive reuse of former industrial buildings. This desire to understand how local economies can respond to complex economic transitions makes his role with the FRESHER project a perfect fit. In addition to research, Marcello also assists with project organization, coordinating work study students, and facilitating the FRESHER project to the stakeholders involved, as well as the general public.
